Each Nurse Icon painting begins with a memory: my mother cycling through the streets of West London in her beautifully formal NHS uniform, visiting patients as a District Nurse in the early years of the National Health Service. Sometimes I rode behind her in the baby seat, a child in school uniform, watching doors open to her with warmth and respect.
These original oil and acrylic paintings are created as intimate tributes to that vanished world of dedication, dignity and care. Painted on stretched canvas or panel, and available in any size, each commissioned artwork carries a timeless, vintage atmosphere inspired by mid-century nursing, British social history and everyday acts of compassion.
Whether collected as contemporary figurative art, NHS-inspired artwork, or a personal remembrance of nursing heritage, every Nurse Icon painting is made to feel deeply human, quietly cinematic and full of memory.
