Beautiful birds, monumentalised in a Byzantine style gilded painting.

Each painting is a small, hand-painted study of presence, light, and stillness, created in my Dublin studio using acrylic on stretched canvas or board. Inspired by the quiet beauty of birds, these works are less concerned with strict realism and more with atmosphere, gesture, and mood.

The backgrounds are gilded with gold metal foil using a technique I have developed to create textured surfaces that suggest shifting skies, clouds, and changing light. As the day moves, the paintings subtly transform — sometimes luminous and reflective, sometimes soft and muted.

At approximately 180mm x 180mm, these pieces are intentionally intimate, inviting close attention to colour, texture, and detail. Every painting is completely unique, shaped by layers of brushwork, imperfect marks, and the physical process of making by hand.

These works are small moments of observation and imagination — quiet reflections on nature, memory, and the fleeting beauty that surrounds us.
