Art Workshop: Gilded ‘Nature Icons’. May 13

A full day SUNDAY tutored workshop in painting and gilding ‘Nature Icons’. 

11.00AM to 4.45PM

with a one hour lunch break. 8 places ONLY.

These gilded paintings are like jewels -they catch the eye with the richness of the colours and lustre of the gilding. They’re reminiscent of Byzantine religious icons and they sanctify these beautiful creatures. Using imitation Gold leaf, you’ll get an insight into how it can bring a stunning new dimension into your art work.

 As in all my classes, I’ll demonstrate as we go along through the process and all participants will get personal attention throughout the day. 

To speed up the painting process, I’ll provide a selection of photographic references and templates. I will provide paint, boards and gilding materials. We will be working with ACRYLICS ONLY for this workshop.
We’ll cover the following:

  • Preparation and composition
  • Drawing the figure
  • Painting the composition
  • Gilding
  • Refining and completion

Portrait Workshop: Materials to bring

Please read this carefully and check this list against your materials: It may not be possible to provide you with any materials if you arrive without them (although materials are available in the shop, with a discount -see above)..
  • Bring a Box or table easel. There are chairs and tables.
  • A STAY WET palette or other palette suitable for acrylics.
  • Brushes -Bring a selection of soft synthetic acrylics brushes.
  • Rags

Principal McSherry

Kevin McSherry is one of the leading and most imaginative contemporary artists in Ireland. His exciting, intriguing and often challenging paintings play with the viewers’ expectations of what art can and should be. Born in London in 1962, he left school at 16 to be apprenticed to the printing trade to help provide for his family, subsequently leaving London to live in Ireland in the eighties. His imagination, wit and ability to describe complex and thought-provoking concepts have been widely sought after by The Wall Street Journal, The Irish Times, Sunday Business Post and many other important patrons globally. His visionary work also hangs in many private collections around the world from the US and Canada to the UK, France and Japan. He has been invited to show in cultural venues in France and Ireland, including as part of a juried show in Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs in le Palais du Louvre, Paris, The Alliance française, Dublin AND Paris and at the 2002 exhibition in the Chester Beatty Library; The Art of Centemporary Illumination. His work hangs in the British National Collection, notably in the British Embassy in the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris and in private collections around the world. He is represented in North America, the UK and all other Anglophone territories by Three in a Box Artist’s Representatives in Toronto. In France he is represented by Marie Bastille Artists Agent.
