Thank you so much for my first painting lesson. I feel quite emotional, mostly because I regret that I didn’t do this decades ago! Well, there’s no time like the present…

Believe it or not, when I was a thrusting young man, just out of my apprenticeship and raring to go, I had managed to get through life without EVER eating garlic. That's the truth. It just never featured in cooking at home. So when I was back-packing around Turkey, I decided to try it out for myself. I pilfered a solitary clove from a roadside vegetable stall (O bad, bad me -I fought the law!). Such was my ignorance, that I munched the entire clove at once and then had to run around gasping and looking for water to quench the burning sensation that overtook my mouth. That's what you get for stealing, I suppose. It took a while before I could taste anything else...

I since married a French woman and have lived in a cloud of garlic for the last 25 years.  This little piece was yesterday's demonstration for my painting students. If you'd like to learn to paint -why not join Dublin's friendliest art class?
